It's The Rules, Kid [ O P E N ]

Benji knew that most students hated the required random checkups at Pacific South High. Every patient that he saw made that perfectly clear to him, but there was nothing he could do, that was the principals rules, not his. He cleaned up his office while he waited for his next patient.

Ryleigh walked into the room for her checkup. She wasn't thrilled about it, but it had to be done and there was nothing she could do about it.

"Hi there, Miss...Rollins, right?" asked to doctor. "I'm Dr. Logan, Benji," He reached into a little drawer at the base of the exam table, and pulled out a blue paper gown. "Why don't you just step into that little side room over there, and change into this for me?"

Ry put on a fake smile taking the blue thing and walking I.to the other room changing into it. She hated this part but the school wasn't going to change anything

"I know you all really don't like this, but we're only trying to take care of you. While you're in our campus, you're in our care. If you get real sick, and something happens to you, that's on us," Benji explained, looking down at the girl's file to check the records from her previous check up.

Ry walked out and sat on the table "I get that it's school rules and all, but how many more check ups can us students get this year? I know that there is no way oily of it and our health is important, but it's like I see you guys more than my own parents."

"The amount of times that you're called in, and the amount of check ups that you get just depends on how healthy you are. I have some patients that I may only see a few times a semester, while others I may see on a weekly basis."

She nodded "so that means athletic kids like me get seen a lot more than others?"

"Some of you do, yes, but we've also got some students with very serious, life threatening illnesses. Some of you get seen more that others just for the fact that we don't want to make it known to the entire student body who it is that is seriously ill. I mean, think about it, if you were seriously ill with like, cancer, or something, and you had to be in here at least once a month, would you want to be the only one in here that much?"

"I guess not. So what is my health looking like doc?" She askrr

"Well, your last records in your chart are from just before the start of softball season, and everything looked just about perfect then," he reached behind him to pull the vital assessment dock closer to the table. "I'm just going to start out by checking some basic vitals, okay?" Benji asked, pulling the thermometer from it's spot on the case.

She nodded watching him. She had her mind on Dean like she always dir.

The thermometer was atemporal thermometer, so he simply held it to her left temple after hooking her up to the blood pressure cuff, and pulse oximeter. He watched the little blue numbers on the machine quietly.

Ry watched the machines taking her blood pressure and her temperature.

"Well, your blood pressure has come down to normal range again, it was slightly elevated last time, but that could have been related to stress, or diet."

"I think it has to do more with stress." She replied

The doctor nodded. "I'd have to agree, that's the most common factor in people your age."

She nodded "I kind of figure since I have so much on my plate and me getting into a new relationship and dealing with my brother and his mood swings."

"Overprotective?" Benji asked with a chuckle.

"Yes. Seth is very overprotective when it comes to me."

"I totally get that. I'm the youngest for three myself."

"It's just me and Seth, but he is the older one of us."

"It's tough being the younger one sometimes, but believe me. one day, you'll understand."

She nodded "I'm beginning to understand, but it doesn't change the fact that I am dating his best friend."

"Well that makes things a little more complicated," said the doctor, sliding the bell of his stethoscope on to his patient's back. "Deep breath, please."
